BBC has commissioned a new Welsh crime drama, Old Town Murders.
The series is produced by Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios, and is created, written, and executive produced by Matthew Barry.
Starring Mark Lewis Jones and Steffan Rhodri, the story follows two detectives working in the seaside town of Tenby as they navigate both personal and professional challenges while solving complex murder cases. Blending humor with a strong focus on character, the six-part series (6×60) offers a fresh take on the crime genre.

Filming is currently underway in Tenby, Cardiff, and along the South Wales coastline, with support from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales. The series will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, exploring themes that go beyond crime-solving, including friendship, second chances, and the search for meaning later in life. International distribution will be handled by ITV Studios.
Davina Earl and Nicola Shindler of Quay Street Productions praised the title: “Old Town Murders has everything we’ve come to expect from Matt’s brilliant writing—deeply relatable characters, his trademark wit and warmth, and engaging, inventive crime stories that draw you in. Mark and Steffan are the perfect choice for DI Glyn Walsh and DS Sion Dearden, and we’re excited to see how they bring this unique relationship to life on screen,” noted,
Meanwhile, Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, added: “We’re delighted to team up with Quay Street Productions to bring Old Town Murders to the screen. Matthew Barry has created another outstanding original Welsh drama, and while it centers on solving murders, at its core it’s a show about friendship, with a lovable central duo audiences will root for,” noted.
