The true crime book Innocents has been optioned for a television drama adaptation.
Written by Jonathan Rose alongside Steve Panter and Trevor Wilkinson, the book will be developed for the screen by Curiosity Rights and United Heroes.
The story centers on the murder of 11-year-old Lesley Molseed and the wrongful conviction of Stefan Kiszko. Of Ukrainian heritage and intellectually disabled, Kiszko served 16 years in prison before being exonerated by new forensic evidence. The real perpetrator was convicted in 2007 following advances in forensic science.
Kiszko’s mother, Charlotte Kiszko, campaigned tirelessly for years to secure her son’s release. A Member of Parliament later described the case as “one of the worst miscarriages of justice of all time.”
Terry Clark is overseeing early-stage development. Producers include J.D. Zacharias (Orphan, Freud’s Last Session) and Egor Olesov (Mr. Jones, Battle for Sevastopol).
Innocents series will focus on families who find themselves invisible within the justice system and their fight to be heard.
