Set in post-war London of 1946, Bookish follows Gabriel Book (Gatiss), a bookshop owner whose so-called “peace” after the war is anything but quiet. Alongside the police, he continues solving peculiar crimes and mysterious murders.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama (part of ITV Studios) with Beta Film handling global sales and PBS Distribution managing North American rights, Bookish is set to build on the huge success of its debut. The first series, which aired earlier this year, averaged 1.5 million viewers and became U&alibi’s second-highest performing premiere of all time.

The new cast of Bookish Season 2 includes: Jason Watkins (The Game, McDonald & Dodds)as Harold Sneed and Miranda Richardson (The Last Anniversary) as Duchess Alberta, alongside Simon Callow (Étoile, The Boy That Never Was) as ‘E’, Rupert Graves (Surface, Washington Black) as Colonel Reggie Winters, Claire Skinner (Outnumbered, Coma) as Mrs Calthrop and Youssef Kerkour (Home, Stay Close) as Yusuf.

They join returning cast members Polly Walker as Trottie Book, Connor Finch as Jack Blunt, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris, and Buket Kömür as Nora.

In Season 2, Book explores the world of spiritualism when he is asked to solve a strange case involving medium Harold Sneed (Watkins). Inspector Bliss also turns to him for help with a puzzling murder at a gentleman’s shop, where the elderly tailor Maxie Kleinmann (Corduner) is ready to confess, but the clues suggest something much more complicated. Later, Book and Jack travel to the German village of Würl at Christmas, sent by the mysterious ‘E’ (Callow) to stop a scheming Duchess (Richardson). What begins as a festive mission quickly turns dangerous when they uncover hidden secrets in a dark castle filled with possible suspects.

Meanwhile, Book’s lavender marriage with Trottie (Walker) faces new challenges when the charming Colonel Winters (Graves) enters the picture, raising the stakes both personally and professionally.
