Sony has released the official trailer for Caught Stealing, featuring Austin Butler (Dune: Part Two) as he navigates New York City’s criminal underworld. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky, known for critically acclaimed works such as The Whale (2022), Mother! (2017), Black Swan (2010), and Requiem for a Dream (2000).

In Caught Stealing, Butler portrays Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who “unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined,” according to the official synopsis. Zoë Kravitz (Batman) joins Butler as his love interest, and the rest of the cast includes stars such as Bad Bunny, Matt Smith, Regina King, Vincent D’Onofrio, Action Bronson, Liev Schreiber, and Griffin Dunne.

The plot follows the story of Hank Thompson as he is drawn into the world of crime. Hank Thompson, who earns his living by working in a pub after a career-ending injury, becomes a target for the mafia.

Meanwhile, Matt Smith plays a British punk in the film. The pictures of Matt Smith, who plays a character named “Russ”, shared for the film attracted a lot of attention. Russ asks his neighbour Hank Thompson to take care of his cat, and events unfold accordingly.

The film is adapted from Charlie Huston’s novel series of the same name, with Huston also writing the screenplay. “I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride to life. I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers,” the director Aronofsky commented on the adaptation.

Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, praised the director in a previous announcement, saying, “Darren is one of the most brilliant audiovisual storytellers in the world, and adapting these wonderful books by Charlie Huston for Austin to star was too exciting an opportunity to not be a part of.”
