Channel 5 is turning its focus on the unresolved Madeleine McCann case, this time through the lens of her mother, Kate McCann.

Amid renewed debates over what happened to Madeleine McCann, the news has intrigued those following the case closely. The factual drama Suspect: Kate McCann will depict the tense 48-hour period after Madeleine’s disappearance, during which Kate McCann was declared an arguida (formal suspect) and interrogated by Portuguese police.

Based on official police documents and recorded testimony, the production stars Laura Bayston in the lead role. The 90-minute special is directed by Paula Wittig, with a screenplay by Philip Ralph.

Produced by Orchard Studios, the project is not the only true crime work Channel 5 has planned. The network is also developing dramas based on the cases of Huw Edwards and Tracie Andrews.
