Master screenwriter Hwang Jo-yoon, best known for Oldboy, Rampant, and Memoir of a Murderer, returns with a new Korean original crime thriller series, Gold Land, set to premiere on Disney+. This marks Hwang Jo-yoon’s first streaming platform exclusive project.

Gold Land follows the story of Kim Heeju, a woman with a troubled past whose quiet life in a remote town turns upside down when she accidentally discovers gold bars linked to a smuggling ring. Pursued by dangerous criminals, Heeju is forced to return to the one place she swore to avoid.

Park Bo-young, beloved for her lead role in Strong Girl Bong-soon, portrays the determined and mysterious Heeju, while Kim Sung-cheol (The Battle of Jangsari, The Old Woman with the Knife) joins her as a mob enforcer nicknamed “Woogy,” tasked with hunting her down. The plot thickens when the two realize they grew up in the same neighborhood.

The series is directed by Kim Sung-hoon, known for Chief Detective 1958 and Confidential Assignment.

Disney+ has also greenlit several other Korean originals, including Delusion WT, about a grieving vampire; Low Life, which follows a group of misfits chasing a life-changing treasure; and Tempest, a political thriller centered on a diplomat and a special agent uncovering a plot that threatens the whole Korean peninsula.
