In this John Turturro thriller, a seasoned thief faces a high-stakes challenge when a stolen USB thrusts him into a race against a vengeful crime family.
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the global distribution rights to The Only Living Pickpocket in New York from MRC and T-Street.
The film is written and directed by Noah Segan, with John Turturro starring in the lead role and Giancarlo Esposito, Steve Buscemi, Tatiana Maslany, Victoria Moroles, and Will Price appearing in key roles.
In the film, Harry Lehman, an aging pickpocket, struggles to make a living in a transformed New York while unwittingly stealing a valuable USB, propelling him into a race to return it before facing the wrath of a vengeful crime family.
The Only Living Pickpocket in New York premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was also showcased in Berlin. At Sundance, John Turturro’s performance was widely praised; the film has been described as a love letter to Manhattan’s 1980s indie cinema. A theatrical release is planned for fall.
MRC financed the film, with Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman from T-Street serving as producers, and Johnson and Bergman also acting as executive producers.
Sony Pictures Classics expects the film to reach a broad audience and achieve success this fall.
