Former Family Guy showrunner Steve Callaghan has stepped into the cozy crime genre with Trivia Night Mysteries, a new mystery project that has just wrapped filming.

The 90-minute pilot is designed as the first installment in a planned mystery movie series and will also air as a two-part TV event titled Trivia Night Mysteries: A Question of Murder. Produced and distributed worldwide by Nicely Entertainment, the project is set for a Q1 2026 launch.

Shot in Missouri, the film stars Morgan Bradley (The Christmas Recipe Files, Heartstrings Attached) as Sara Keane, a quick-thinking fact-checker and trivia champion who turns amateur detective after a rival trivia player is found dead. Alex Trumble (Exes of Christmas Past, A Scottish Christmas Secret) co-stars as Reid Taggart, a charming lawyer who becomes both Sara’s crime-solving partner and a possible romantic interest.

The film is directed by Vincenzo Conrorio (The Christmas Ticket, The Christmas Venue) from a script by Callaghan.

Callaghan is best known as one of the original writers on Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy, where he later served as showrunner for seven seasons starting with Season 8. He also worked as showrunner on American Dad during its eighth season. Trivia Night Mysteries marks his first project in the mystery genre.

Pre-production on further instalments of Trivia Night Mysteries is already underway.

Callaghan said:

“I’m beyond thrilled to see Trivia Night Mysteries come to life. This world and its characters are so much fun to write, and I can’t wait for viewers to watch Sara and Reid search for clues while simultaneously navigating their budding, flirtatious attraction to each other. Partnering with Nicely on this series of movies has been an amazing experience, they’ve built an environment that champions creativity and delivers stories that connect with audiences everywhere.”
