Netflix has released the teaser trailer for The Monster of Florence, a gripping new four-episode series directed by Stefano Sollima. Created by Sollima and Leonardo Fasoli, the series is set to air exclusively on Netflix on October 22, a date which also marks the 10th anniversary of the streaming service in Italy.
According to the official synopsis, over a span of seventeen years, eight double murders were committed using the same weapon: a .22 caliber Beretta. The murders sparked widespread fear across the country and became the subject of one of the longest and most complex Italian investigations into the first and most brutal serial killer in the country’s history, known as The Monster of Florence.
The announced cast for The Monster of Florence features Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, Liliana Bottone, Giacomo Fadda, Antonio Tintis, and Giordano Mannu. The four-part series is produced by Lorenzo Mieli, Stefano Sollima, and Gina Gardini under The Apartment, a Fremantle company, and AlterEgo.
Based on ongoing legal proceedings and investigations, The Monster of Florence explores the many “possible monsters” who emerged as suspects over the years. The story focuses on these possible monsters and provides their point of view to the audience, “Because the monster, in the end, could be anyone.”
