UK multichannel broadcaster UKTV has commissioned a new true crime documentary exploring one of the most notorious cases of the past 25 years. Outback Terror: The Falconio Murder, produced by Prospero Productions, has been ordered for UKTV’s U&W entertainment channel and streaming service U.

The two-part, 2×60-minute documentary coincides with the 25th anniversary of the murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio, who was killed in the Australian outback in 2001. His body was never recovered, adding to the enduring mystery surrounding the case.

The film sees investigative specialists return to the original crime scene to re-examine the events, seek new insights into the motives of convicted killer Bradley John Murdoch, and explore theories surrounding the location of Falconio’s remains.

Principal production funding comes from Screen Australia, in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest, while Sphere Abacus is handling international distribution. The commission reflects UKTV’s continued investment in true crime content as a key pillar of its factual strategy across both linear and streaming platforms.
