Viola Davis is stepping into the world of fiction with her debut novel, Judge Stone.

Co-written with bestselling author James Patterson, the book will be published on March 9 by Little, Brown and Company.

The courtroom thriller centers on Mary Stone, a respected circuit judge in the small town of Union Springs, Alabama. She is forced to preside over a deeply controversial and politically charged case involving a doctor prosecuted under strict abortion laws for performing a procedure on a 13-year-old girl.

As the case unfolds, Stone finds herself torn between her commitment to justice, loyalty to her community and the pressures of reelection. The novel explores themes of law, ethics, politics and personal conscience.

Viola Davis previously found literary success with her 2022 memoir Finding Me, which earned her a Grammy Award for its audiobook narration.

Alongside her literary pursuits, Davis continues her acting career. She recently portrayed the President of the United States in Amazon Prime Video’s G20 and is set to appear in the upcoming adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, scheduled for release in 2027.
