Apple TV+ is accelerating production on its highly anticipated thriller series Safe Houses with the addition of two key cast members.

Tobias Menzies, widely recognized for his roles in The Crown and Outlander, and The Night Agent star David Lyons have joined an ensemble already led by Jennifer Connelly and Ana de Armas. Inspired by Dan Fesperman’s espionage novel, the eight-episode series unfolds in the aftermath of a high-ranking CIA officer’s murder in Madrid, a crime that uncovers a vast conspiracy capable of destabilizing global power.

The narrative centers on the tense dynamic between Sofia Jiménez (De Armas), a fugitive agent accused of the assassination, and Ambassador Elizabeth Winters (Connelly), the victim’s widow. While they investigate the murder from opposing perspectives, David Lyons will portray a CIA special ops agent and Tobias Menzies will star as Elizabeth’s husband.

The production features a formidable creative team, with Gideon Raff (Homeland, The Spy) serving as showrunner, writer, and director, while Otto Bathurst is set to direct the opening block. A co-production between Apple Studios and wiip, Safe Houses promises to be a premium addition to the platform’s burgeoning slate of international espionage dramas.
