Following its massive success in 2025, where it spent an impressive six weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, the gripping darkly humorous mystery series Dept. Q is officially returning for a second season.

Adapted from Jussi Adler-Olsen’s acclaimed Danish crime novels by The Queen’s Gambit creator Scott Frank, cameras have officially begun rolling on the new chapter of Dept. Q against the atmospheric backdrop of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Centering on a maverick division operating out of a police station basement, Dept. Q follows an unconventional team dedicated to cracking previously unsolvable cold cases. This season, cantankerous Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck and his band of glorious misfits are set to tackle a terrible crime hidden within the highest echelons of Scottish society, putting them on a collision course with rich and powerful elites who believe they are entirely above the law.

Matthew Goode reprises his lead role alongside returning core cast members Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, and Jamie Sives. The basement department is also expanding its ranks this season, welcoming a stellar lineup of new additions including Aisling Franciosi, Greg Wise, Nicholas Rowe, and Amy Brenneman. While a definitive release date has yet to be locked in, anticipation is already mounting for the return of Netflix’s best-in-class procedural storytelling.
