FIFTH SEASON has secured its first round of international pre-sales for Honey, a six-part darkly comedic Cold War thriller produced by Sid Gentle Films Ltd, part of BBC Studios. The series is made for BBC iPlayer, BBC One and ZDF, in association with FIFTH SEASON, which handles worldwide distribution.

The international deals include Stan in Australia, Sky in New Zealand, Hot in Israel and OSN+ across the Middle East and North Africa. The series held its world premiere at MIPCOM Cannes on October 12, 2026.

Honey Follows an MI6 Agent in Cold War Berlin

Set in East Berlin in 1982, Honey follows Martha, a 24-year-old deep-cover MI6 agent who becomes entangled in a dangerous love triangle. As she navigates a shadowy world of counterespionage, Martha finds herself caught off guard by desire, complicating an already high-stakes mission.

The cast is led by Ann Skelly (House of Guinness, The Nevers), Nate Mann (Masters of the Air, Licorice Pizza), Jannis Niewöhner (Munich: The Edge of War, Napoleon) and Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power).

Emma Moran serves as lead writer and executive producer, with Emme Hoy also writing on the series. Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris executive produce for Sid Gentle Films, while Christopher Hall serves as producer. Toby MacDonald directs episodes one through three, and Michelle Savill directs episodes four through six.

FIFTH SEASON Expands Its International Scripted Slate

“Honey is exactly the kind of bold, distinctive series we want to bring to the international market,” said Jennifer Ebell, Executive Vice President of Television Distribution at FIFTH SEASON. “It has the sharp wit, complex characters and unexpected turns that audiences respond to, but with its own completely original voice. Emma Moran and the Sid Gentle team have created a series that is smart, sexy and hugely entertaining, and the response from buyers ahead of its MIPCOM premiere has been extremely encouraging.”

The series is part of FIFTH SEASON’s scripted slate, which also includes Legacy of Spies, The Ink Factory’s upcoming adaptation of John le Carré’s work starring Matthew Macfadyen; Recap, a psychological mystery thriller from K Period Media; and a new adaptation of Treasure Island from Playground Entertainment.
