Michael Uppendahl (The Beauty, Candy, Castle Rock) has been tapped to direct the pilot episode and executive produce Prime Video‘s upcoming thriller-drama series Bishop.

Co-created and written by Tony Saltzman and showrunner Little Marvin under his overall deal at Amazon MGM Studios, the project is also executive produced by Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo.

The star-studded series features Joel Kinnaman and veteran actor John Malkovich in the leading roles, backed by a powerful ensemble that includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jordana Brewster, Harry Treadaway, and Xavier Samuel, alongside Jennifer Beals and John Larroquette in recurring and guest spots. Set in San Francisco, the story follows Bishop Graves (Kinnaman), a brilliant yet battle-scarred homicide detective hunting an elusive serial killer who targets the city’s wealthy elite.

As the audacious killer gains a devoted, cult-like following among San Francisco’s disenfranchised citizens, Bishop becomes convinced that the string of murders connects back to the city’s most powerful tycoon—his own father, Lincoln Graves (Malkovich). Director Uppendahl joins the production fresh off his work helming several episodes of Ryan Murphy’s FX series The Beauty and the network’s upcoming adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s novel The Shards.
