Following the conclusion of You, Penn Badgley has found his next television project. The actor is set to star in Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, Amazon’s upcoming series based on Benjamin Stevenson’s novel of the same name.
Blending murder mystery with dark comedy, the series centers on a complicated family reunion that quickly takes a deadly turn. Badgley will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
A Family Reunion Turns Into a Murder Mystery
Penn Badgley will star as Ern Cunningham, a mystery-writing expert who reluctantly attends a family Reunion to welcome his brother Michael home from prison. The reunion is particularly uncomfortable for Ern, as he was the one who helped put Michael behind bars in the first place.
The already tense gathering takes an even darker turn when a frozen body is discovered. With a snowstorm leaving the family trapped together, Ern finds himself surrounded by relatives with complicated histories of their own. As the title suggests, everyone in the Cunningham family has killed someone, whether accidentally or otherwise.
The premise brings together the conventions of a classic whodunit with a darker sense of humor, placing a family with a shared history of death at the center of a new murder mystery.
David Hemingson to Adapt the Series
David Hemingson is adapting Stevenson’s novel for television and will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series.
Hemingson described Stevenson’s story as a “heartfelt and darkly hilarious whodunit” and highlighted the combination of humor, mystery and family Dynamics at the center of the story. He also praised Badgley as the right actor to bring Ern to the screen, pointing to the character’s intensity, intelligence and dry sense of humor.
Penn Badgley will executive produce alongside Stevenson. Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Jeanne Snow of Made Up Stories will also serve as executive producers.
