Sky has commissioned The Pembrokeshire Murders, a new three-part documentary series revisiting two double murders that took place on the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales during the 1980s.
Produced by Magna Studios, the three-part, 60-minute docuseries will return to the investigations surrounding the deaths of Richard and Helen Thomas in 1985 and Peter and Gwenda Dixon in 1989.
What is The Pembrokeshire Murders About?
The two murder cases were eventually closed in 2011, when local man John Cooper was convicted. However, the story resurfaced a decade later following ITV’s drama The Pembrokeshire Murders, which was based on the crimes.
The drama prompted local journalist Andy Chandler and legal assistant Hayley Wood to look more closely at the case. Their investigation led them to material from Cooper’s defence that points towards other possible suspects.
What New Evidence Will the Sky Docuseries Examine?
The material uncovered by Chandler and Wood is now being reviewed by the Criminal Case Review Commission.
Sky’s upcoming documentary series will provide Access to Chandler and Wood as they continue their investigation. The production will also feature people who were involved in the original poliçe investigation, bringing together perspectives from both the historic case and the ongoing examination of the evidence.
When Will The Pembrokeshire Murders Be Released?
The Pembrokeshire Murders is set to premiere on Sky Documentaries and streaming service Now later this year.
Tash Gaunt directs the docuseries, with Stuart Bernard serving as showrunner. Plimsoll creative director of non-fiction Louis Mole executive produces alongside Sarah Macdonald and Jonathan Smith, while Sam Taylor serves as producer.
