Netflix is looking to expand The Lincoln Lawyer universe with a new spinoff centered on Cobie Smulders’ character, Artemisa “Emi” Finch.
The project is currently in early development with Smulders expected to reprise the role she was first introduced with in the Season 4 finale. Emi was revealed as the previously unknown half-sister of Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. After her brief introduction, the character is set to have a much larger presence in the show’s upcoming fifth and final season.
The Lincoln Lawyer executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman are developing the spinoff and working on the script. A+E Studios, which produces the original series, is also behind the potential new show. Netflix has not officially ordered the project to series yet.
The potential spinoff comes as The Lincoln Lawyer prepares to wrap up Mickey Haller’s story with Season 5. The final season will see Mickey helping Emi as she tries to free a woman she believes was wrongfully convicted of murder. The case draws Mickey into a complicated investigation involving family secrets, corruption and a conviction dating back six years.
With the original series approaching its conclusion, the potential Emi-centered spinoff could allow Netflix to continue exploring The Lincoln Lawyer world beyond Mickey Haller. Further details, including additional cast members and a possible release date have not yet been announced.
