Red Sage Studios and Sun Distribution have announced a feature film adaptation of Gordon Korman’s YA novel Son of the Mob.

Son of the Mob will be directed and produced by Vince Marcello, best known for Netflix’s hit The Kissing Booth trilogy, who will also co-write the screenplay with his longtime collaborator Jay Arnold.

The romantic comedy follows Vince, the teenage son of a mob boss who dreams of leaving his family’s criminal world behind in pursuit of a normal life. His plans take an unexpected turn when he falls in love with the daughter of the FBI agent investigating his family, setting off a series of comedic and romantic complications.

Production is slated to take place in Canada in partnership with Vancouver-based Brightlight Pictures.

Reflecting on the project, Marcello said he was hooked from the opening scene, adding that, as an Italian American, he could immediately picture the characters and felt an instant connection to the story.

Marcello’s The Kissing Booth films ranked among Netflix’s most successful YA titles, with the first film achieving an exceptional rewatch rate and its sequels generating hundreds of millions of viewing hours.

Son of the Mob marks the second YA adaptation jointly developed by Red Sage Studios and Sun Distribution, following the previously announced adaptation of Jessica Cunsolo’s bestseller She’s with Me. Red Sage Studios’ development slate also includes The Bridge Kingdom and Let’s Play.
