Apple TV+ has announced a new crime drama series based on best-selling author Lars Kepler’s Joona Linna novels. Starring Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, and Stephen Graham, the untitled series will focus on the face-off between a homicide detective and a serial killer.

The official synopsis reads, “Jonah Lynn (Schreiber), an ex-soldier turned homicide detective, tired of working the tough streets of Philadelphia, moves to a small town in western Pennsylvania for a quiet life. But as the town and his family come under attack from the diabolically cunning serial killer Jurek Walter (Graham), Jonah must protect all that he holds dear. When the desperate search for Jurek’s last missing victim forces Jonah to send his adopted daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer (Beetz), up against Jurek, how far will Jonah go?”

As for the cast, Schreiber, best known for the Ray Donovan series, has just wrapped filming Netflix’s The Perfect Couple. He will next star in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, set to release in theaters Aug. 29. Beetz has worked with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux, while Graham starred in Netflix’s groundbreaking series Adolescence.

For those unfamiliar with the author, Lars Kepler is the pen name of a married couple, Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. The new crime drama is adapted from Joona Linna thrillers, an action-filled story spanning from Sweden to the United States.

The Joona Linna series is being adapted for Apple TV+ by Rowan Joffe (Tin Star, 28 Weeks Later) and John Hlavin (Shooter, The Man Who Fell to Earth), who will also act as showrunners. The first two episodes will be directed by Tim Van Patten (The Sopranos, Masters of the Air), who will also serve as executive producer alongside Joffe and Hlavin.

A+E Studios is producing the show in collaboration with Range Studios. Executive producers include Joffe, Hlavin, Van Patten, Schreiber, Beetz (via her Sleepy Poppy banner), Lars Kepler, Oystein Karlsen, David Rysdahl, Dorothy Fortenberry, and Niclas Salomonsson. Julie Herrin will serve as co-executive producer.
