The upcoming 1980s period crime drama The Westies, which chronicles the rise of a ruthless Irish gang in New York City, has officially confirmed its release date.

The highly anticipated series is set to premiere on MGM+ on July 12, accompanied by a gripping first-look teaser trailer that showcases the violent stakes of the narrative.

Centered around the construction of the massive convention center in Hell’s Kitchen, the series dives into the immense financial windfall that puts the gang on the map. Despite being heavily outnumbered by the notorious Five Families of the Italian Mafia, the Westies utilize their legendary brutality and cunning to secure their share of the spoils. However, this fragile truce is quickly threatened by an internal generational conflict between brash newcomers and old-school leadership, all while a deepening FBI investigation threatens to blow their world apart.

Likening to an American Peaky Blinders, the series boasts a stellar ensemble cast led by Oscar-winner JK Simmons (Whiplash), who portrays a seasoned mentor to a young gang member played by Tom Brittney (Grantchester). The powerhouse lineup also features Titus Welliver (Bosch) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark). Bringing this raw, authentic underworld story to life are acclaimed creators Chris Brancato, the mastermind behind Narcos, and Michael Panes of Godfather of Harlem, promising a masterclass in modern television crime storytelling.
