Global streaming giant Netflix has officially announced a follow-up miniseries to last year’s Italian scripted true-crime hit The Monster of Florence, which originally premiered on the platform in October.

he upcoming three-part project is being produced by Fremantle-owned production company Wildside alongside Italian outfit AlterEgo, and was created by Leonardo Fasoli and Stefano Sollima, who also serves as the director.

While the original series dramatized the investigation into eight double homicides committed in the countryside around Florence between 1968 and 1985, this new installment expands the narrative by focusing heavily on the case’s primary suspect, Pietro Pacciani—a farm laborer who was convicted and later acquitted of the gruesome crimes.

Director Stefano Sollima noted that the creative team always envisioned The Monster of Florence as an anthology series of standalone stories, with each future installment dedicated to exploring one of the different suspects in the notorious crime wave that shocked Tuscany and Italy.
