AMC+ is bringing Smilla’s Sense of Snow to audiences in the U.S. and Canada, with the crime drama set to make its North American debut on the platform.

The series is a contemporary adaptation of Peter Høeg’s internationally acclaimed novel and is distributed worldwide by ITV Studios.

The eight-part series stars Filippa Coster-Waldau, Elyas M’Barek and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, with BAFTA winner Amma Asante directing.

What is Smilla’s Sense of Snow about?

Set in Copenhagen in 2040, the series follows Smilla Jaspersen, a woman living an isolated life in a heavily surveilled society facing an escalating energy crisis. Her world changes when a young Inuit boy she has grown close to dies under mysterious circumstances.

Convinced that his death was not accidental, Smilla begins investigating what happened. Her search takes her from Copenhagen to the icy landscapes of Greenland and eventually into a dangerous web of political power. As she gets closer to the truth, Smilla’s unusual abilities also lead her to confront questions surrounding the boy’s death and her own identity.

Produced by Constantin Film in co-production with Viaplay, ARD Degeto Film and Baltic Film Services, Smilla’s Sense of Snow is produced in association with ITV Studios, which holds worldwide distribution rights.

Amanda Collin, Morten Suurballe, Silver Wolfe, Set Sjöstrand and Alexandre Willaume also star in the series, which is executive produced by Asante alongside Oliver Berben, Robert Kulzer, Pipaluk K. Jørgensen and Tina Hastings.
