International distribution company About Premium Content (APC) has expanded the global reach of two crime-focused productions, with French crime drama Blue Gold and art-world investigation documentary An Artful Imbroglio heading to new markets in Europe and beyond.

APC’s deals were announced ahead of Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre, where international buyers are gathering to explore new French-language scripted and unscripted productions. While Blue Gold uses a fictional murder mystery to explore a family’s buried secrets, An Artful Imbroglio investigates a real-life scandal involving allegedly forged Old Master paintings.

What Is Blue Gold About?

Set in Provence during the 1980s, Blue Gold combines a family saga with a murder mystery. The story follows three generations of women, Marie, Alice and Flore, whose lives are connected by a secret that has remained hidden for decades.

The mystery takes a darker turn when a body is discovered and further murders follow. Flore is forced to investigate her family’s past, gradually uncovering the truth behind the events that have haunted the three generations.

Produced by Authentic Prod for France Télévisions, the eight-part series is written by Marie-Anne Le Pezennec and Ludovix Lacroix and directed by Hippolyte Dard. Barbara Probst, Sylvie Granotier and Déborah Krey lead the cast.

The series has been licensed to Walter Presents for the U.K. and Ireland, RTP in Portugal and Blue Play in Switzerland, adding to its existing deal with U.S. streamer MHz Choice.

What Is An Artful Imbroglio About?

The crime story takes a very different form in An Artful Imbroglio, a three-part documentary produced for Arte by APC Stories.

The series investigates one of the art world’s most notorious mysteries. Its story begins in 2014, when an anonymous letter set off a major scandal surrounding the alleged trafficking of fake Old Master paintings.

Set across Paris, Rome, London and New York, the documentary follows the people caught up in the controversy, including an exceptionally charismatic art dealer at the centre of the investigation.

An Artful Imbroglio has been acquired by Filmin in Spain and RTP in Portugal.

How Are Crime Productions Reaching International Audiences?

APC’s new deals demonstrate the range of crime storytelling currently travelling across international television markets. Blue Gold approaches crime through family secrets, generational trauma and a series of murders, while An Artful Imbroglio examines an alleged art fraud scandal through documentary storytelling.

Both titles will be presented as part of APC’s catalogue at Unifrance Rendez-Vous, alongside other French-language productions aimed at international buyers.
