Movistar Plus+ has announced the premiere date for El Castillo, a new six-part crime drama inspired by Mabel Lozano’s nonfiction book El Proxeneta. The series will debut on October 8, following its screening in the Official Selection of the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
What Is El Castillo About?
Set against the rise of Spain’s organized prostitution networks, El Castillo follows a police investigation that gradually exposes the scale of a criminal operation spanning the country.
At the center of the story is Gerardo Liesa, a young inspector assigned to the Central Unit Against Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Forgery (UCRIF). Working alongside fellow officer Carmen Osés, Gerardo begins investigating criminal groups running brothels across Spain.
The drama also introduces Claudia, an 18-year-old woman who travels from Colombia hoping to start a new life. Instead, she finds herself caught in a human trafficking network, bringing the personal consequences of the investigation into focus.
Who Stars in El Castillo?
The cast includes Raúl Arévalo, Valentina Vidal, Omar Ayuso and Laia Marull, alongside Marc Rodríguez, Claudio Villarrubia, Miguel Torrecilla, Rubén Martínez, Ángela Boix and Ana Ruano.
Valentina Vidal makes her screen debut in the series, while Arévalo leads the cast as Gerardo Liesa.
Who Created the Movistar Plus+ Series?
El Castillo comes from writers Isabel Peña and Eduardo Villanueva, who previously worked together on Antidisturbios. Peña is also known for her work on films including Que Dios Nos Perdone and As Bestas, as well as the recently released El Ser Querido.
Directing duties are shared by Elena Martín Gimeno and Sandra Romero. Martín Gimeno previously directed Júlia Ist and Creatura, while Romero’s credits include Se Tiene Que Morir Mucha Gente and Por Donde Pasa el Silencio.
Produced as a Movistar Plus+ Original with Caballo Films and Mafalda Entertainment, the series consists of six 50-minute episodes. The production team includes executive producers Nacho Lavilla, Eduardo Villanueva and Isabel Peña, with Susana Herreras and Fran Araújo overseeing content for Movistar Plus+.
With its combination of police investigation, organized crime and a story drawn from real-world events, El Castillo joins Movistar Plus+’s growing lineup of Spanish original dramas tackling contemporary social issues.
