The BBC’s acclaimed detective comedy-drama Ludwig is gearing up for its second season, with a new full-length trailer offering a closer look at what awaits John Taylor and Lucy Betts-Taylor.
Starring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, the series follows the unlikely detective duo as they continue searching for John’s missing brother, James. In the new season, John takes on a new position as a crime scene consultant with the Cambridge Police Authority, where he begins working alongside DCI Russell Carter.
While John becomes more closely involved with police investigations, his new position also creates a major obstacle. As an official member of the force, he is no longer permitted to use police resources to investigate James’s disappearance or uncover what his brother had been working on.
Lucy, meanwhile, takes a job at a local newspaper. Despite their separate professional paths, the pair find themselves drawn back together as they continue trying to uncover the truth about James and bring him home.
The new trailer hints at a season filled with missing detectives, multiple murders and high-level cover-ups, suggesting that the mystery surrounding James will become even more complicated. Several new faces will also join the cast, including Mark Bonnar and Stephen Merchant. Merchant plays Danny Sloane, a cocky snooker champion who becomes part of John’s latest investigation.
Ludwig premiered in September 2024 and quickly earned strong reviews. The first season currently holds a 97% critics’ score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ludwig Season 2 will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on August 20.
