The hit spy thriller The Day of the Jackal, a joint venture between Peacock and Sky, has added a major star to its roster for the upcoming second season.

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Matt Bomer is set to join the cast in a recurring role, where he will reportedly face off against lead star Eddie Redmayne. While specific character details are being kept under wraps, insiders suggest that Bomer, widely known for his acclaimed performances in White Collar and Fellow Travelers, will be stepping into a villainous role this time around.

Production for the new season of The Day of the Jackal has already kicked off in Budapest, where Bomer joins fellow new cast additions Weruche Opia and Pablo Schreiber. Based on Frederick Forsyth’s classic novel, the series became a breakout success in its debut season, shattering records as Sky’s most successful new launch and ranking among the top five streaming original dramas in the U.S. according to Nielsen.

Produced by Carnival Films, the series continues to feature Redmayne as the elusive professional assassin known as “the Jackal.” With Bomer’s addition to an already prestigious production team that includes executive producers like Gareth Neame and Ronan Bennett, the second season of The Day of the Jackal looks to build on the massive global momentum of the franchise.
