Jensen Ackles is returning to the crime thriller genre with Rules of Prey, a new MGM+ series based on John Sandford’s bestselling novel of the same name. The eight-episode adaptation has been greenlit by MGM+ and will begin filming this month in Toronto.
Ackles, best known for Supernatural and The Boys, will star in the lead role and executive produce the series. The actor will play a former Minneapolis Police Department detective who is pulled out of seclusion to investigate a series of murders seemingly designed to send a personal message to him.
What Is Rules of Prey About?
Rules of Prey is based on the first novel in Sandford’s 35-book Prey series. The story follows a former detective whose past catches up with him when a string of carefully orchestrated murders forces him back into an investigation.
The case appears to be more than a conventional murder investigation, as the killer has deliberately designed the crimes to communicate with the detective.
Jensen Ackles Leads MGM+’s New Crime Thriller
The series is created by Bruce Terris under his overall deal with MGM and will be produced by MGM Television and Take 5 Productions. Terris will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Daniel Sackheim, who has worked on series including Jack Ryan and The Walking Dead, will direct the pilot and second episode. John Weber, Charles Gogolak, Matt Leipzig, Howard Braunstein, Michael Jaffe, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are also executive producers, alongside Ackles and Terris.
Sandford will serve as a co-producer.
When and Where Will Rules of Prey Be Available?
Rules of Prey will premiere on MGM+ in the US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
