Netflix has renewed The Beast in Me for a second season, with Claire Danes set to reprise her role as writer Aggie Wiggs. The renewal comes after the thriller earned 21 Emmy nominations for its first season.
The series follows Aggie, whose life became increasingly entangled with her wealthy and mysterious neighbor Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys) in Season 1. The story will continue with a new chapter, with series writer Howard Gordon joining Daniel Pearle as co-showrunner for the upcoming season. The new installment will also mark the first project under Gordon’s new creative partnership with Netflix.
What to Expect From The Beast in Me Season 2
Netflix has not yet revealed details about the Season 2 storyline. Gordon said the team only wanted to return if they could find a story worthy of the first season, adding that they are now ready to continue the series.
The first season debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list and reached the Top 10 in 88 countries. It accumulated 43 million views over its first seven weeks.
Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for his performance as Nile Jarvis, while Danes received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in the same category. Composers Sean Callery and Sara Barone also won a Creative Arts Emmy for their work on the series.
Executive producers for Season 2 include Claire Danes, Howard Gordon, Daniel Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster.
The first season of The Beast in Me is currently streaming on Netflix, while a release date for Season 2 has yet to be announced.
